Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-thon

At the 21st Annual Hamilton Burlington Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the City of Hamilton Public Health Services Rabies team, along with stakeholder agencies such as Hamilton Animal Control, The Hamilton Academy of Veterinarians, the local Hamilton Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) office, and the SPCA will run a booth for World Rabies Day. The main goal of the booth will be to raise awareness of World Rabies Day and the importance to vaccinate cats, dogs, and ferrets, and to learn about dog biting prevention information. The World Rabies Day booth at this Wiggle Waggle Walk-A-Thon will hopefully be the first of many ways the newly formed rabies stakeholder group will support WRD in the years to come. The goal of the Wiggle Waggle Walk-A-Thon is to raise pledges to support the sick, injured, homeless and abused animals in the HBSPCA's care. The WRD booth will be one of several other information booths at the event.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Cabrera and Sousa, Dominican Republic (Regional event)

Dominican Republic Rabies Prevention and Sterilization Campaign

Animal Balance in collaboration with The Friends of Animals in Sousa and the Alliance for Rabies Control, ACC&D, Ark Sciences, Illinois University and the Municipality of Cabrera are holding a 2 week long rabies vaccination and sterilization clinic. All cats and dogs are vaccinated and with the owners approval sterilized, either by spaying the females, or giving an injectable sterilant which is life long to the male dogs, all male cats are neutered. By vaccinating against rabies and sterilizing the animals we will humanely reduce the cat and dog populations and protect the local community from Rabies.

ECUADOR

United Against Rabies 2010

From June to September, students at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at Ecuador's Agricultural University will be giving talks in schools in the city of Guayaquil on the dangers of rabies and how to prevent the disease. On the 25th of September, we'll be giving free door-to-door vaccinations, and on 28th of September we'll be holding a march in Fco. de Orellana Avenue, where we'll be handing out information.

MEXICO

The role of dog as part of society

In Mexico the World Rabies Day celebration main purpose is to remember rabies impact on human and animal health, and to have in mind how easy is to prevent it and eradicate it from the reservoir taking preventing actions. Therefore, Mexican Ministry of Health is coordinating this celebration for the 4th consecutive year, with the participation of 32 Health State Services. The celebration will begin with a national ceremony on September 28, it will be presided by federal, state and local authorities and with participation of health personnel at local and community level. There will be available a relating poster for this celebration. Two activities will take place in the 32 State Health Services: The first one is to develop a local forum the main issue is: "the role of dog as part of society", professors and students from the faculties of medicine and veterinary, operative health personnel and NGO`s and others will take place in this activity. The second task is to perform a surgical sterilization journey, stating as a goal 100 surgeries by each State, obtaining 3200 surgeries of dogs and cats at the end of the day. All above will be summarized in the annual report to be delivered to all 32 health state services and involved personnel.
