Free mass rabies vaccination campaign and mobile vet clinic
Duration: 09/25/2009, 9:00AM to 9/28/2009, 4:00PM
We at Lusaka Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) have carried out 5 free mass rabies vaccination campaigns this year, a total of over 4,500 dogs being vaccinated for the first time THIS YEAR ALONE! We travel with a group of vet students from University of Zambia into the poor slum areas of the city to help dog owners on low or no income to cover their dog for rabies, and thus try to eradicate the disease in our city. Alongside this, we had our first ever mobile vet clinic, where over 600 dogs and puppies were dewormed, dipped for fleas and ticks, and taken away for specialized treatment if required....ie tvt cases. We had the honor of the Worldwide Veterinary Services Dr Luke Gamble and a film crew from Sky 1, UK filming this as part of their documentary of Luke's travels to animal welfare groups around the world, due to be televised early next year in 10 episodes.......Zambia will be episode 6, so great PR for WRD!!! 779 dogs were vaccinated in total. LAWS is THE only animal welfare society IN ZAMBIA, our overheads huge, resources very limited. We have plans to vaccinate 10,000 animals in 2010, but will need help with funding for this mammoth task.

ZAMBIA
Lusaka, Zambia (Local event)Free mass rabies vaccination campaign and mobile vet clinic
